Car Safety Tips While You Go On Spring Break in Houston

It’s spring break. Congratulations! You’ve earned it. Now get on your car, call up your friends, and go on that long-planned, well-earned road trip. It’s going to be one heck of a week, right? Wait!

Before you go, Dr. Lock has a few reminders to keep your road trip as hassle-free and the ride as smooth as possible. While you may think your car is one well-oiled machine, there still might be things you’re overlooking (too much excitement, perhaps?) So before you load the Coleman in the trunk and grab your friends, take some time to read these safety tips we’ve rounded up for you.

Before leaving

Before leaving, make sure there’s enough gas in the tank. Although there are a lot of rest stops along the freeways you’re going to be passing, it’s better to be prepared because you never know when a roadblock may appear, requiring you to reroute or go on a detour. Never leave the house with a close-to-empty tank. You have no idea how many distressed customers have called us, asking for refuel services in the middle of an empty freeway.

Check your tires—are they too worn out, flat, in need of replacing? Better do it now so you won’t get stressed out about tire replacements while already on the road.

Pop the hood and check if the oil’s good, there’s enough water, and you’re not running low on cooling fluid. Because we know that nothing will stop you from going on that perfect getaway.

While driving

Make sure you and your shotgun-rider have your seatbelts on because a) seatbelts DO save lives and b) you don’t want to get pulled over for a seatbelt violation.

Be aware of speed limits and regulations. Every time you enter a new freeway or highway, always look for the signs specifying the speed limits. You don’t want to get too fast or too slow, and you certainly don’t want to get a speeding ticket.

Parking regulations and other reminders before you leave your car

If you’re going to park your car a little ways away from the beach or resort, make sure it’s a legal parking space. Better yet, get a valet service (if it’s available) and make sure to park where it doesn’t look too dark or sketchy.

Don’t forget to enjoy your Spring Break. Make sure it’s a good one!
